It was a very significant day today!
Such an amazing day this was today, and today in history. Oldest thing first; today was the official founding date of the Hudson’s Bay Company, in (wait for it….) in the year 1670! This was Canada’s first trading company and played a most significant role in the development of this country. Today it remains in operation, abeit in a somewhat! different role as an international department store (long story!). Also today, my older brother turned the ripe old age of 65 (that gives him Old Age Security-eligibility here in Canada!). Also today, the first cruise ship in over 50 years sailed from Miami, Florida USA and into port in La Habana (Havana) Bay on the north coast of Cuba. It was an historic day for so many people (Americans and Cubans) who have long-awaited freedom to travel between these two countries. It almost didn’t happen as the Cuban Government had to change an old law in the books, preventing any Cubans from entering the country via the seas. Havana has become a very, very busy airport and now seaport with this first arrival ( a ship from the Carnival Cruise Lines). They carried roughly 700 passengers and are making stops in 2 other cities. This is a big deal! There’s a great deal of history between these two countries in the past 60 odd years (another long story). Congratulations to all, on all accounts.
