Where were you? this day? that Tom Petty Died

Sad shocking news it was, and will remain etched in my memory much like those other "significant events"; JFK, Elvis; Project Desert Storm! This event was really kind of freaky actually. I was reading Tony Parson's 2005 novel "Stories We Could Tell"... stories based upon his early years in London writing music reviews. The adventures of 3 colleagues writing for the paper and the groups, some real bands and musicians; some more anonymously based on celebrities of the time.

The novel deals specifically with 1977 centred on August 16, the Day that Elvis Died! and how these 3 colleagues at The Paper learned of that news.Fascinating!

I was reading and came to page 166; it related a discussion they had about none-other-than Tom Petty! So I stopped reading and "Googled" him to see about his condition. I had heard earlier in the day, the news, the rumours; at first denied, then confirmed. Tom Petty died in hospital that very night, following a heart attack. As I said earlier, this book will remain etched in my memory.

I'd certainly recommend it as an interesting fun read about that era of youth, music, sex, drugs and rock 'n roll... People who held onto the past, the better years of the music of the 60's, days of Woodstock, the fashions, protests; especially the youth culture, and then the rise of punk, and skinhead gangs and nazis (over in England). ... kinda rings a bell akin to what is, once again happening with society. History repeating itself. Hauntingly... RIP Tom Petty.
