What a most remarkable day, this date! Oh, where to begin?

The best fragrance I have ever experienced; but more on that later. The past 3 days have been wonderful for me. Beginning Friday June 3, First Friday in Downtown Lethbridge, BRZ (YQL). A Tremendous short noon program “Serenading the Guitar”, a visit to Galt Museum, then an evening stroll downtown for CASA’s MAPS Project launch. Marvelous time enjoying those simple pleasures with my wonderful wife. And that was just Friday! I’ll post pictures of these inspiring activities soon, hopefully.
Then Saturday I awoke feeling fresh, and invigorated, inspired from a very visual day, Friday. Sandra and I then planted some more flowers in our back yard; our sanctuary. A wonderful time!
There was some sad news the past few days, though; but with lots of happy thoughts over these things. The passing of the Great Boxer, Mohammed Ali. On Sunday I learned so much more about this man, so many tributes to him; as one caller to CBC Radio’s “Cross-country Check-up” called him, truly a “Citizen of the World”. If only his health hadn’t sidelined him (his affliction with Parkinson’s Disease) there’s no telling what more he could have accomplished as a peace-loving, social activist, (draft-dodging), Black Muslim. Who refused his government’s demand to (as he said it) go kill people across the seas; people who had done him no harm. Life is not always fair though.
Another passing hit the news; Canada’s very own “teen-idol” from the ‘60’s, Bobby Curtola. More wonderful memories of that by-gone era of innocence. Then (earlier in the week) we heard news from a younger generation, more recent rock Canadian Legend, the front man for the Tragically Hip, Gord Downie was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. They also announced they will be doing a final tour with him this summer. Certainly, many mixed emotions. Then when tix went on sale, those “scalper goons” did their nefarious deeds once again and were selling $100 tix for over $2,000. (But I’m over that. Remember; stress is not good, gwd).
It’s the First week of June; hats off to Mama Nature as we celebrate Environment Week. I haven’t heard much for goings on around here though. I celebrate in my own ways, and not just one week of the year. Please do join me; you might just like it too.
6-6-16 was the first day of Ramadan this year. Listening to the radio, I learned a great deal more about this celebration of Islam, focusing on the less fortunate, and on Peace, patience and understanding. I am all over that! Yeah.
Today, 6-6-16 was also the deadline the Supreme Court of Canada set for our Canadian Parliament to get a new law into place for “physician-assisted dying”. Nope; didn’t happen. Good news though; the Senate (which has had more than its fair share of scandal and other problems the past couple of years) has this opportunity as “the House of sober second thought” to review, and make amendments, in order to get this legislation right. #GoSenatorsGO! See how positive I am being!
hmmm three sixes in this date; some numbers I do find significant, interesting in their structure, their form. You might have guessed that from this website domain name itself! But as for meaning? what’s up with that? 3 sixes? Nada.
But, let me take you back now to the beginning of today’s blog. What is my most favourite aroma? The flower of, what I know as, the Russian Olive tree. Tiny Yellow florets, on this silver-leaved tree only last for a few days. But the aroma in June is magnificent, and it takes me fondly back to memories of my Junior High (now called “Middle School!) days. Some years provide greater abundance of blooms; this year is one of those. Back in the late ‘60’s we lived in Fort Garry, a suburb of Winnipeg, Manitoba. I had a summer paper route, delivering the Winnipeg Free Press (or was it the Tribune?). There was at least one Russian Olive Tree along the route; the aroma was mind-tingling! You know how scents are so evocative; so identifiable, and relate so well to bring back memories so very clearly? For some, myself included, it’s Crayola Crayons; other newer brands don’t’ cut it though! Well, that’s how equally strong these tiny flowers are for my palate. On that note I shall sign off, for now. Whew! I’ve many more pictures to catalogue and upload. G’night and may I wish you all; happy times, good health and fond memories. gwd
